Second half swings the game

Manuel Pellegrini’s double change at the interval paid off. Cedric Bakambu and Rodrigo Riquelme entered, and on 63 minutes Bakambu slipped Abde through for 2-1 to Betis.

Michel’s side hit back fast. Joel Roca won a penalty minutes after coming on, and Azzedine Ounahi converted in the 68th minute to make it 2-2. The winner arrived in the 80th minute, Riquelme steering home after another Abde assist. Betis then managed the closing stages, with Abde subbed off on 88 after a standout display.

Girona led possession 56% to 44% and topped xG 1.36 to 1.04, plus out-shot Betis 9 to 7. But Betis put more on target, 3 to 2, and made their big moments count.

The visitors were busier defensively, with more tackles (14 to 9) and interceptions (10 to 7). Aitor Ruibal conceded the penalty for Girona’s equalizer, while Daley Blind’s recorded error led to a goal.
