Andrés Giménez launches two homers and 5 RBI in Blue Jays 8-5 loss to Rays

Toronto fell 8-5 to Tampa Bay at Rogers Centre, but Venezuelan shortstop Andrés Giménez turned the night into a personal highlight reel. Hitting out of the eighth spot, he went deep twice and drove in five of the Blue Jays’ runs. It was a loud performance in a game the visitors controlled from the start.
Power from the No. 8 spot
Giménez finished 2-for-4 with 2 home runs, 5 RBI and 2 runs. Both of his batted fly balls cleared the fence, and he produced 8 total bases. He saw 14 pitches, struck out twice, and went 1-for-1 with runners in scoring position. For the game his OBP was .500, slugging 2.000 and OPS 2.500. According to Sofascore’s box score, he provided all of Toronto’s extra-base damage.

Steady glove at shortstop
He played all 9 innings at shortstop with a 1.000 fielding percentage and two putouts. No errors and clean execution kept the door open for a comeback. The bat stole the show, but the defense stayed tidy.
How the game tilted Tampa Bay’s way
The Rays jumped out early with three in the first and two more in the second. They ended with 12 hits to Toronto’s 6 and committed no errors against the Blue Jays’ one. The hosts posted three in the second and two in the seventh, most of it courtesy of Giménez, but the gap proved too much in front of 39,336 fans.
