Spurs flip the script in Portland: Wembanyama headlines 114-93 comeback in NBA Playoffs

San Antonio turned a 17-point second-half deficit into a 114-93 road win over the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA Playoffs. The Spurs exploded for a 73-35 second half to grab a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference first round. Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox led the charge in front of 19,717 at Moda Center.
Second-half swing that decided it
Portland led 58-41 at halftime and spent 28:07 of game time in front, with a biggest lead of 19. Then San Antonio flipped everything. The Spurs won the third quarter 33-16 and the fourth 40-19, posting a 73-35 second-half margin.
San Antonio’s defense drove the turnaround. The visitors finished with 12 steals and 10 blocks and forced 18 Blazers turnovers, nine of them in the fourth quarter. The Spurs also shot 49% from the field and 42% from three, and logged 26 assists.
Wembanyama’s two-way clinic
Wembanyama delivered 27 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocks and 4 steals in 34 minutes, good for a Sofascore Rating 9.2 and a team-best +28. He was perfect at the line at 8 of 8 and closed strong with 12 points in the fourth quarter. His rim protection changed the game, highlighted by 4 blocks in the third quarter alone.
The numbers stayed clean too. He shot 9 of 17 overall and 1 of 4 from deep and added 3 assists. It was a complete postseason performance that set the tone at both ends.
Fox steers the offense, help arrives on time
De’Aaron Fox matched the star power with 28 points on 11 of 17 shooting, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, earning a Sofascore Rating 8.8. He hit four threes and controlled tempo when San Antonio made its decisive run.
Stephon Castle chipped in 16 points and 8 assists, while Devin Vassell added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Julian Champagnie’s +22 plus-minus in 28 minutes underlined the impact across the rotation for Mitch Johnson’s No. 2 seed.
Portland’s bright spots and the late fade
Deni Avdija led the Blazers with 26 points on 8 of 14 shooting, 7 rebounds and a 7.1 Sofascore Rating. Jrue Holiday added 20 points and 6 rebounds, though his 6 turnovers hurt late. Jerami Grant scored 17 on 50% shooting and Toumani Camara and Shaedon Sharpe combined for 16.
The fourth quarter told the story. Portland shot 5 of 12 from the field with 9 turnovers, while San Antonio went 14 of 18 and moved the ball for 8 assists. Tiago Splitter’s team also cooled from deep overall at 10 of 31 from three.
What’s next
With the 114-93 win, the Spurs lead the series 3-1. San Antonio will look to carry that second-half form into Game 5, while Portland must bottle the first-half version that built a 19-point cushion.
