Oilers 4-1 Ducks: Draisaitl scores twice

Edmonton opened its NHL Playoffs run with a tidy 4-1 home win over the Anaheim Ducks at a sold‑out Rogers Place. Leon Draisaitl scored two goals, Evan Bouchard dished three assists, and Connor Ingram stopped 29 of 30 shots to keep the Ducks at arm’s length.
Fast start at Rogers Place
The Oilers needed only three minutes to get rolling. Vasily Podkolzin finished off a feed from Evan Bouchard and Ryan Nugent‑Hopkins for 1-0. Zach Hyman made it 2-0 a few minutes later, also at even strength from Nugent‑Hopkins.
Draisaitl then pushed the lead to 3-0 before the first intermission, converting after work by Bouchard and Connor McDavid. Edmonton won 87% of first‑period faceoffs and outshot Anaheim 12-6, which set the tone.
Special teams set the middle frame
Anaheim got on the board with a power‑play strike from Alex Killorn, assisted by Cutter Gauthier and Mason McTavish. The response was swift. Draisaitl buried a power‑play goal, with McDavid and Bouchard on the helpers, restoring a three‑goal cushion.
There was bite to the game too. The second period featured matching roughing minors to Zach Hyman and Tim Washe, plus calls on Colton Dach and Jacob Trouba. The Ducks were also hit with a late bench minor for too many men, served by McTavish.
Goaltending and grit carry Edmonton
Ingram was sharp throughout, posting a .967 save percentage with 29 saves on 30 shots. He got plenty of help in front with 16 blocked shots and a 44-40 edge in hits.
Anaheim started Ville Husso, who made 10 saves, then turned to Lukas Dostal after Edmonton’s third. Dostal stopped 6 shots the rest of the way. The Ducks generated volume but lacked the finishing touch at even strength.
Numbers that tell the story
– Shots on goal: Oilers 20, Ducks 30
– Faceoffs won: Oilers 39 of 63 (61%)
– Blocks: Oilers 16, Ducks 7
– Even‑strength shooting: Oilers 3 of 16 (18%), Ducks 0 of 26 (0%)
– Corsi%: Oilers 36.0, Ducks 64.0
Efficiency and goaltending won out. Edmonton cashed chances, controlled the dots, and closed the door late with eight third‑period blocks. Draisaitl earned First Star, Ingram Second, and Podkolzin Third.
