York bounced back from their weekend defeat by Sutton by recording a 2-0 victory at promotion rivals Oldham in the Vanarama National League.
First-half goals from Malachi Fagan-Walcott and Ollie Pearce moved the Minstermen a point behind leaders Forest Green with a game in hand.
Fagan-Walcott headed wide early on but he gave the visitors a 24th-minute lead by tucking home the rebound after Alex Hunt’s free-kick hit a post.
Pearce made it 2-0 in the 38th minute when he fired in from Joe Felix’s cross to score his 16th goal of the season.
Mike Fondop’s second-half header was kept out by York goalkeeper Harrison Male and Oldham forward James Norwood fired wide as the Latics slipped 10 points behind their opponents.
