The Women’s European Championship 2025 is on the horizon and with it comes plenty of expectation for England, who go into the tournament as defending champions.

The Lionesses have also had the top scorer in the last two editions of this event, as Jodie Taylor took home the crown in 2017 with five goals and Beth Mead shared it with Alexandra Popp three years ago after both players netted six times.

A deep run in the tournament looks crucial, with the last four top goalscorers having all played six games.

Leading the line for Spain could be key

Spain have been ultra-impressive going forward, netting 21 times in six Nations League games and key to their efforts has been the form of Esther Gonzalez.

The 32-year-old forward has netted in three of her last four games for La Roja and in total has 33 goals for her national team.

A rarity in the Spain squad in that she plays her club football in America, she has been a very solid addition for Gotham FC, helping them win the title in 2023.

Spain put a combined 19 goals past fellow Group B teams Portugal and Belgium in the Nations League Group A3, with Gonzalez accounting for four of those.

A market Germans tend to dominate

Germany have produced the top goalscorer of this tournament in four of the last six editions so cannot be underestimated in this market.

Lea Schuller is the clear standout contender to repeat the trick, she has 52 goals in 75 appearances for her nation and has 96 goals in 164 games for Bayern Munich.

Norwegian could benefit from soft group

Caroline Graham Hansen has been a crucial part of Barcelona’s success in recent years, netting 48 goals in 71 games for her club side across the last two seasons.

She also has 51 goals for Norway in her career and looks set to add to that tally in Group A, which is undoubtedly the softest of the four.
