Will Davies returns to haunt York as his brace earns Sutton victory

Will Davies punished his former club York as their title hopes took a hit with a 2-1 home defeat to Sutton.
Sutton snapped Davies up from the Minstermen last summer and, having seen him score against them in a 2-2 draw in August, York were cut down by their former charge once again.
The visitors started well and it was deserved when Davies headed in from a corner 15 minutes in.
He added a second with a fine strike from the edge of the box (24) but York came back after the break and saw Josh Stones hit a post.
That was a warning for Sutton and Dipo Akinyemi followed up on it with an 83rd-minute goal, but there would be no equaliser, with York’s nearest promotion rivals Forest Green and Barnet both winning to make it a miserable afternoon for the home side.
