Watford vs Sheffield Wednesday: Owls can seal top-half finish

&w=707&quality=100)
- Nine of Sheffield Wednesday’s 15 Championship wins have come on their travels
- Watford have lost their last four matches
- Recommended bet: Sheffield Wednesday draw no bet
Watford were Championship playoff contenders for large parts of the campaign but they have slipped to 13th place and need a home win over Sheffield Wednesday to avoid a second successive bottom-half finish.
The Hornets have largely struggled in 2025 and are approaching their 46th match of the season on a four-game losing run.
Sheffield Wednesday are another team who flirted with making a push towards the top six but lacked the consistency to stay in contention.
However, Danny Rohl’s side head to Hertfordshire in reasonably high spirits after taking four points from their last two matches.

Team news
Watford can call on Moussa Sissoko and Kevin Keben, who are available after suspensions. However, their squad remains stretched with Daniel Bachmann (ankle), Yasser Larouci (groin), Giorgi Chakvetadze (toe), Kwadwo Baah (hamstring) and Amin Nabizada (muscle strain) out of contention.
Yan Valery (cramp) failed to finish last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth but is expected to stay in the starting line up. However, fellow defenders Max Lowe, Di'Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa and Pol Valentin remain on the injured list.
The stats
Watford have lost seven of their last 10 matches by a one-goal margin.
The Hornets have failed to score more than once in each of their last 11 fixtures.
Watford have lost three of their last four games by a 2-1 scoreline.
Sheffield Wednesday have lost just one of their last five away games.
Six of Wednesday’s last eight matches have featured fewer than three goals.
Prediction
Sheffield Wednesday spent much of last season fighting against relegation but they can clinch a top-half finish in 2024/25 by defeating Watford at Vicarage Road.
Ambitious Owls’ manager Danny Rohl has been keen to push his team further up the table but may have a decision to make in the summer with several clubs reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
Rohl has become a popular figure among Owls fans and, if the Watford match is to be his last game at the helm, he can at least finish off on a positive note.
Wednesday have been generally strong on their travels with their away points tally (31) ranking as the fifth-best in the division.
They have every chance of grabbing maximum points against an out-of-sorts Watford, who have slipped from seventh to 13th since the turn of the year.
