Tranmere edged closer to preserving their Football League status courtesy of a 0-0 draw at Barrow.

The result left Rovers four points above second-bottom Carlisle, whose own survival hopes hang by a thread after a 1-1 draw at Accrington, with two games to go.

Tranmere were seeking to avoid the chance of any late-season heartbreak by taking all three points, but just could not find the breakthrough.

Substitute Connor Jennings blazed over after 68 minutes when it seemed easier to score.

The visitors were convinced they were denied a second-half penalty when striker Omari Patrick claimed he had been tripped by Robbie Gotts. Rovers boss Andy Crosby, already facing a touchline ban, picked up a yellow card for protesting.

Home keeper Wyll Stanway also saved from Sam Finney and Regan Hendry to secure his fourth successive clean sheet.

Mid-table Barrow rarely threatened to trouble Luke McGee. His only intervention came from a first-half blockbuster from home man of the match Kyle Cameron as Barrow extended their run to just one defeat in 11 games.
