Gillingham and Tranmere took a point each from a battling 1-1 Sky Bet League Two draw at Prenton Park.

The result means the Gills ended a run of four consecutive defeats, while it is now just one win from seven for Rovers.

The home side had a wonderful opportunity to take the lead in the seventh minute when an unmarked Omari Patrick headed straight at Gils goalkeeper Glen Morris from close range.

Ten minutes later Rovers were ahead when Sol Solomon connected with a Patrick cross to slot the ball home from six yards.

Connor Wood almost doubled the advantage moments later, but his fierce shot from the angle flew just wide of a post.

Connor Jennings, Patrick and Solomon also had opportunities to increase the lead and the visitors made them pay on the stroke of half-time when Bradley Dack’s cross was turned into his own net by Jordan Turnbull.

Gillingham looked much more threatening after the break and enjoyed plenty of the ball, with Armani Little and Robbie McKenzie both seeing chances go wide.

Tranmere had little to show for their efforts in a second half that lacked any real goalmouth action, with substitute Harvey Saunders’ weak header their only real chance to snatch the win as the points were shared.
