Matches between Tottenham and Manchester United over the years have not taken place with the teams languishing in 13th and 14th place in the table but that is the reality of their current status.

Everton and West Ham could drop the underachieving pair even further down the standings before kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium depending on their Saturday results, although Spurs went into the weekend still 10 points clear of the relegation places.

Home manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for a positive result all the same as his team have lost eight of their last 11 Premier League matches, but Manchester United are one of the few teams that Spurs have had success against this term.

Tottenham beat United 3-0 in the league at Old Trafford in September after Bruno Fernandes was sent off in the first half, and their Carabao Cup clash in December was a real thriller with Spurs winning 4-3 having had a comfortable 3-0 lead at the hour mark.

United's form is not much better, with seven losses in their last 11 league games, but they have been having some success in cup competitions and their home league loss to Crystal Palace was the only time they have failed to win in their last five matches.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison are all still out for Tottenham due to injuries but Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison could all return for this game.

Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert have returned to training and should be in contention soon. Archie Gray and Kevin Danso are in line to start.

Left-sided defender Patrick Dorgu could make his first Premier League appearance for Manchester United.

Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Jonny Evans are set to miss the game but Alejandro Garnacho could return to the starting line-up.

There have been four or more goals in three of the teams' last five encounters and the net should be bulging often again in north London on Sunday.

There have been at least three goals in eight of Tottenham's last nine matches and with United returning just two months after the teams put on a seven-goal spectacle at this venue, hopes should be high for another entertaining encounter. 

While Spurs' injuries are slowly clearing up, they are set to field an unproven defence and taking a positive approach may be their best chance of claiming three points.
