- Norway Women have already beaten Switzerland Women twice in 2025
- The Swiss took just two points from their recent Nations League campaign
- Recommended bet:
Norway Women to win

Norway were once the dominant force in European football and they are one of few teams to have won both the World Cup and the Euros.

However, they are not quite the side that they once were and will be looking to improve on their last two women’s European Championships showings, where they failed to get out of the group.

They kick off their campaign against hosts Switzerland, who have won just one game at the European Championships in their entire history.

Team news

Luana Buhler is set to be a big miss for Switzerland Women
Luana Buhler is set to be a big miss for Switzerland Women

Tottenham defender Luana Buhler is set to miss the tournament for Switzerland through injury, joining Romana Bachmann, who has the second-most appearances and goals in Swiss national team history, in the treatment room.

Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti is a doubt for this opener after missing their warm-up game against the Czech Republic.

Norway recently called up Marthine Ostenstad in place of the injured Guro Bergsvand.

The stats

Norway have scored 40 goals and conceded just 11 in the 19 games Gemma Grainger has been in charge of.

Switzerland have lost 6-0 to Germany and 4-0 to France in the last 12 months.

Norwegian ace Caroline Graham Hansen has 48 goals in 71 games over the last two seasons for Barcelona and finished second in the Ballon d’Or voting this season.

Prediction

Norway were dominant in qualifying for this tournament, beating Albania and Northern Ireland 21-0 on aggregate across four games to qualify.

They struggled somewhat in their recent Nations League group, although the one team they got the better of twice was Switzerland, with Norway running out 1-0 winners at home and 2-1 away.

In Caroline Graham Hansen, Ada Hegerberg, Frida Maanum and Guro Reiten, they have a seriously impressive front four that should not be underestimated.

Switzerland’s key striker Romana Bachmann was ruled out of the tournament through injury and that could be the difference between the two teams in this clash.

The Red Crosses have won just one match at the women’s Euros and that drought looks set to continue against a Norway side who are solid at the back and prolific in attack.
