Accrington moved a point nearer to clinching safety after grinding out a drab 0-0 draw at Swindon.

The result pushes them 11 points clear of the bottom two as the season enters its final eight games.

Town’s Will Wright had the first good chance as he went close with a dipping free-kick.

The Robins breathed a sigh of relief when Stanley skipper Seamus Conneely hit the post from Josh Woods’ set-piece.

Tom Nichols then picked out Paul Glatzel lurking free at Accrington’s back post but the ex-Liverpool man somehow jabbed wide.

Nichols set up Harry Smith with a perfect header only for the striker to fire straight at the keeper, and Stanley’s Alex Henderson should have done much better than shank way over the stand after a neat backheel by Woods.

A last-ditch block by Devon Matthews stopped Smith jabbing home Kilkenny’s low centre.

George Cox then swung in a dangerous near-post cross for fellow Town sub Joe Westley who headed over, and he then neatly turned and hit a fierce shot destined for the top corner but Billy Crellin got a firm hand to it.

Danny Butterworth jinked through the visitors’ midfield but his shot was no trouble for Crellin as the game petered out.
