Swansea City vs Middlesbrough predictions: Boro to boost play-off prospects

&w=707&quality=100)
- Swansea have failed to win any of their last seven games against Middlesbrough
- Both teams have scored in 12 of Middlesbrough’s last 13 away league matches
- Recommended bet: Middlesbrough to win
Having suffered five straight league defeats, Middlesbrough have got their Championship play-off aspirations back on track following successive victories over Stoke and Derby and they will be eyeing Swansea’s scalp this weekend too.
Boro sit ninth, only two points outside the top six, and travel to face a side still in search for a new manager after Swansea sacked Luke Williams in mid-February.
The Swans have responded well to Williams’ departure, beating Blackburn 3-0 and holding on for a goalless draw at Preston in their last two league games, but this looks a much stiffer assignment.
Michael Carrick’s visitors are battling a lengthy injury list but they still have plenty of quality in their ranks and they will be buoyed by the fact that they have won their last five meetings with the Swans.
Team news
Swansea must do without the services of long-term absentee Kristian Pedersen while midfielder Myles Peart-Harris is a doubt after limping off in the first half in Tuesday’s goalless draw at Preston. Otherwise they have a fully-fit squad to choose from.
For Boro, the injury situation is a little more severe and Alex Bangura, Solomon Brynn, Seny Dieng, Ben Doak, Darragh Lenihan and Riley McGree remain sidelined while George Edmundson is a major doubt.
The stats
Swansea have failed to win any of their last seven league games against Middlesbrough, losing each of the last five meetings and failing to score the last twice.
Middlesbrough are looking for three consecutive wins for the first time since November 2024.
Both teams have scored in 12 of Middlesbrough’s last 13 away league matches.
Swansea have won only two of their last 11 league matches.
Finn Azaz has created 2.4 chances per 90 minutes in the Championship for Middlesbrough this season and he has scored in their last two wins over Stoke and Derby.
Prediction
Middlesbrough have struggled with injuries for a large part of the season but they will feel they remain one of the strongest sides in the Championship and securing a place in the play`-offs is very much on the agenda.
Five successive defeats from the end of January to the end of February has made matters harder but they look back on track after recent wins over Stoke and Derby.
Swansea are neither in play-off contention nor at any real risk of relegation, so their motivation levels may be on the wane, and they have had only a four day turnaround after Tuesday’s midweek draw at Preston.
Boro have had longer to prepare with no midweek engagement and, with confidence restored, they look a good bet to make it three wins in a row against a Swansea side that they have excelled against in recent times.
