Southend moved to within five points of the Vanarama National League play-off places as they held on to beat Aldershot 2-1 at Roots Hall.
Noor Husin gave the home side the lead in the 52nd minute, slotting home calmly from the edge of the penalty area for his first league goal of the season.
And the advantage was doubled 20 minutes later when Gus Scott-Morriss arrived at the far post to turn home a good cross from the left.
Aldershot breathed life into the contest 12 minutes from time when Ryan Jones’ corner was knocked down into the path of Cam Hargreaves who made it 2-1, but Southend hung on for the win.
