Frank Lampard has his Coventry charges on the rise in the Championship and after a slow start to the season the Sky Blues will now be believing that they can make their presence felt in the play-off picture.

Coventry have won five of their last six Championship clashes, losing only to leaders Leeds in that period, and they should be targeting maximum points away at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are tough to budge at Hillsborough, where they have lost only one of their last nine, and they are one point and two places above 10th-placed Coventry in the table.

These two teams met in the FA Cup third round in January, with Coventry prevailing on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and the latest rivalry promises to be another closely-fought encounter.

Team news

Sheffield Wednesday are without defenders Akin Famewo and Dominic Iorfa while key men Barry Bannan and Di'Shon Bernard have recently joined them on the treatment table.

The Owls will also be without striker Anthony Musaba, who has been sidelined since the end of January.

Ephron Mason-Clark returned from an injury setback to feature off the bench for Coventry in midweek, so the visitors are only without midfielder Ben Sheaf and striker Haji Wright.

Coventry have won five of their last six league games, keeping a clean sheet in four of those victories.

The Sky Blues have been 2-0 winners on their last two Championship away days.

Both teams have scored in the last five meetings between the sides, which includes January’s FA Cup clash.

Prediction

Coventry started this season as many people’s idea as a dark horse for Championship promotion and they are beginning to live up to those expectations, with 15 points collected from the last 18 on offer to put them in sight of the play-offs.

Lampard is doing a good job at silencing his critics and their attacking talents have been bolstered by the return from injury of Mason-Clark

With four clean sheets in six games, Coventry are looking well-organised and defending resolutely and they may be able to edge a tight encounter at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are weakened without Bannan in midfield and impressive centre-back Bernard has been ruled out for the season, so they are less prepared for this challenge than they would have hoped.

With Wednesday having recorded only three wins in their last 10 league games, Coventry may see this as an excellent opportunity to leapfrog them in the second-tier standings.
