The Championship run-in is ready to begin and it starts with a key match at Bramall Lane where second-placed Sheffield United take on fifth-place Coventry City.

An immediate return to the Premier League remains the aim for the Blades, who are below leaders Leeds United on goal difference only and hold a two-point advantage over third-placed Burnley.

Chris Wilder's side have had to dig out results despite operating without several injured players and they appear to be in a healthier state as they prepare for the final eight games.

Coventry started the season slowly, but have charged up the table under Frank Lampard, who seems to be relishing his return to the dugout.

The Sky Blues have collected 31 points in 2025, which is more than any other team in the division.

Team news

Ollie Arblaster (knee) has been sidelined since November, but Harry Clarke and Alfie Gilchrist were back in training before the international break and should come back into contention.

Kieffer Moore made a couple of substitute appearances before joining up with the Wales squad and is an option if Wilder decides to mix things up in attack.

Coventry's Brandon Thomas-Asante (groin) and Ben Sheaf (unspecified injury) missed the 3-0 victory at home to Sunderland and Jack Rudoni (shoulder) has been out of action for almost a month.

Ephron Mason-Clark overcame a toe injury to start against the Black Cats with Ellis Simms dropping to the bench. Haji Wright was the hat-trick hero that day and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Sheffield United and Chris Wilder face a tough test at home to ever-improving Coventry City.

The stats

Sheffield United have kept just one clean sheet in their last six home fixtures, while seven of the Blades' previous eight wins have been by a single goal.

Coventry have opened the scoring in six of their last seven matches. The Sky Blues have won four of their last five away games.

Five of Coventry's last six matches have featured at least three goals.

Prediction

Coventry have been the Championship's outstanding team since the turn of the year and can continue their push towards an extended season by defeating the Blades in South Yorkshire.

The Sky Blues are playing with bundles of confidence and signed off for the recent break with a superb 3-0 victory at home to fourth-placed Sunderland.

They face a tougher task against the Blades, but are very capable of rising to the challenge.

The Bramall Lane outfit have been consistent across the campaign, losing only six of 38 Championship matches.

However, they have experienced three home defeats since the turn of the year and could become the latest victims of Coventry's surge up the standings.
