Salford moved into the League Two play-off positions with one game remaining after a dominant 4-1 home win over promotion rivals Colchester.
Salford took a second-minute lead when Fiacre Kelleher fouled Ben Woodburn in the area and Hakeeb Adelakun converted the resulting penalty.
The Ammies doubled their advantage in the 21st minute when Liam Shephard collected Woodburn’s pass and placed a low shot past Matt Macey and into the far corner.
And Cole Stockton made it 3-0 in the 24th minute when he turned on the edge of the area and fired a low shot past Macey, after Ossama Ashley had helped on Haji Mnoga’s long throw.
Salford added a fourth goal in the 56th minute when Adelakun slotted home his second penalty of the match, after Ellis Iandolo had been adjudged to have fouled Shephard in the box.
Colchester pulled a goal back in the 66th minute when Iandolo lashed home a left-foot strike after Kelleher had helped on Arthur Read’s corner but it was Salford’s day.
