After the excitement of Saturday's 27-19 first Test win over Australia in Brisbane, the British & Irish Lions head south to Melbourne for two games in a week.

Saturday sees them renew their rivalry against the Wallabies at the MCG but before that, they take on a First Nations and Pasifika XV across town at Marvel Stadium.

The selection involves players of either Indigenous Australian or Pacific Islander heritage and features the likes of Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Charlie Gamble and Tuaina Taii Tualima, who have all already impressed against the Lions this tour.

Andy Farrell has inevitably made changes to keep his key players fresh for Saturday's second Test, but has still named a team with real firepower that should get the job done.

Team news

After injury prevented him from representing Western Force against the Lions, Kurtley Beale, who faced the tourists in 2013, will captain the First Nations and Pasifika XV from fly-half.

Tongan-born prop Taniela Tupou and Fijian-born winger Filipo Daugunu have been released from the Wallaby squad to get minutes.

Owen Farrell skippers the Lions from inside centre, with Fin Smith at number 10 and Jamie Osborne making his debut at 13.

Blair Kinghorn is included at full-back in a starting side that features none of the players who ran out in Brisbane.

However, three players who came off the bench at Suncorp — Ben Earl, Marcus Smith and Alex Mitchell — are again among the replacements.

The stats

The Lions have won all six of their matches on Australian soil.

Andy Farrell's side totalled 238 points in their six matches down under, averaging 39.6 points per game.

Replacement hooker Jamie George, a late call up to the squad, is set to play on his third tour after also featuring in 2017 and 2021.

First Nations and Pasifika XV coach Toutai Kefu started all three Tests for the Wallabies against the Lions in 2001.

Prediction

There is no doubt about the talent involved in the First Nations and Pasifika XV but, as we have seen throughout this tour, it is tough for scratch sides to come together with such limited preparation time.

Tuesday will also be the first time some of the Lions players will have featured alongside each other but after not having a game last midweek, this side has probably at least been training together and possibly even playing against the Test team.

Duhan van der Merwe is a player who may believe he should be in the Test side.

The Scotland wing started all three games against his country of birth, South Africa, four years ago and scored a hat-trick in the 48-0 win over the AUNZ Invitational XV.

The 30-year-old came into the tour after an injury and hasn't looked sharp, with it is noticeable that any opposition he has faced has targeted him in defence.

However, he remains a fabulous attacking player and can demonstrate those qualities in Melbourne.

Back Duhan van der Merwe to score at least two tries at 5/2 with LiveScore Bet.
