Republic of Ireland Women vs Slovenia Women predictions: Visitors can more than hold their own

&w=707&quality=100)
- Republic of Ireland Women need huge win to have chance of promotion
- Slovenia Women have been faultless in the UEFA Nations League this season
- Recommended bet: Slovenia or draw double chance
Republic Of Ireland Women have to go for goals in Cork on Tuesday in an effort to overhaul Slovenia Women in UEFA Nations League Group B2 as only a victory of five or more goals will see them promoted back into Group A.
However, that looks a difficult task after a 4-0 loss to these opponents earlier in the season and the Slovenians have won all five of their games in the section following promotion.
Team news
Republic Of Ireland coach Carla Ward is sweating on the fitness of Aiofe Mannion, who is hoping to recover from a knock she picked up in Friday’s 2-1 win in Turkey, while Lucy Quinn has been struggling with illness.
Slovenia coach Sasa Kolman was presented with no fresh injury concerns following his team’s 2-0 win over Greece on Friday.
The stats
&w=707&quality=100)
Slovenia have not conceded in their last four Nations League matches and they have lost just two of their last 15 away games.
The visitors’ goal has been breached in just three of their last eight road outings.
Ireland have won four of their last five matches.
Carla Ward’s team have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight home games.
Prediction
The equation could not be more simple for the Republic of Ireland if they are to get back among the leading lights in the Women’s Nations League.
Ward’s team need to beat Group B2 leaders Slovenia by five goals in Cork to go to the top of the table, but that looks a desperately difficult task against one of the best emerging nations in the European women’s game.
Ireland’s hopes could have been much more realistic had they beaten Turkey by a more hefty margin on Friday, but they had to settle for an 89th-minute winner from Emily Murphy handing them a 2-1 win that really was not enough.
So, while they are in good form with four wins from their last five matches, they are vulnerable to attack from a Slovenian team who are at the top of their game.
The visitors won 2-0 at home to Greece on Friday which was the fourth successive game in the competition when they have come out on top without conceding, so an Irish win is by no means a formality.
Sasa Kolman’s team have tasted defeat in just two of their last 15 away matches so it makes sense to stick with them and back the visitors to have something to show for their efforts come the final whistle.
