Leeds to win and both teams to score

QPR’s poor run of form continued on Tuesday evening, with Marti Cifuentes’ side losing 2-1 at Middlesbrough, which sees them 12-points adrift of the play-off positions.

After dropping points in recent games against West Brom and Portsmouth, Leeds bounced back with a 2-0 win over Millwall at Elland Road, which saw them return to the top of the table.

Team news

QPR look set to be without their creative midfielder Ilias Chair, after the 27-year-old was substituted in the defeat to Middlesbrough with a likely hamstring injury.

Chair and the doubtful Jonathan Varane, could join the injured Jake Clarke-Salter, Sam Field, Harvey Vale, Zan Celar and Rayan Kolli on the sidelines.

Leeds’ Joe Rothwell came off against Millwall with a knee issue and will be assessed, with Max Wober, Ethan Ampadu and Patrick Bamford likely to be out.

The stats

Marti Cifuente's QPR have now lost four games on the bounce to see their play-off hopes take a massive hit

QPR’s defeat at Middlesbrough was their fourth successive loss.

With Burnley drawing in midweek, Leeds now have a four-point cushion between themselves and third place.

The Whites lost away at Portsmouth last weekend, but had won their previous three matches on the road.

In the reverse fixture earlier this season Leeds beat QPR 2-0 at Elland Road.

Prediction

Leeds will see their trip to QPR as being an ideal opportunity to build on their midweek victory against Millwall.

The Whites only took one point from their previous two games and their fans will have been forgiven for worrying that a familiar wobble was on the way, as has been seen in previous Championship campaigns in recent years.

Instead, they returned to winning ways and with the teams positioned between second and seventh all failing to claim three points, it was a very valuable result.

Now they face a QPR side that have lost four straight games and, during that poor run, have seen any hopes of reaching the play-offs become somewhat unrealistic.

Leeds have to be favoured to win this one, but with the hosts having scored in four of their last five matches, it should be a competitive fixture in which both teams score.
