Burnley to win

Burnley have secured a return to the Premier League but the Championship title remains in their sights as they prepare to take on QPR in the capital.

Scott Parker’s ultra-consistent Clarets have sustained only two league losses and should be full of confidence after Monday’s 2-1 success at home to Sheffield United which sealed a top-flight return and kept them level on points with leaders Leeds.

The Lancashire side are pushing to win the second tier title for a second time in three seasons and will be targeting another six points, starting with their final away game of the campaign.

QPR are 15th place with no chance of reaching the play-offs or being relegated but they will have Burnley’s respect after securing a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor in October.

Team news

QPR’s attacking options are restricted by injuries to Alfie Lloyd, Zan Celar (both hamstring) and Koki Saito (shoulder).

Defender Jake Clarke-Salter (hip) and utility man Harvey Vale (back) are also absent for the Hoops but attacking midfielder Ilias Chair came off the bench in Monday’s 2-1 loss at home to Swansea and is pushing for more minutes.

Burnley boss Parker may ponder a few changes after watching his team secure promotion on Monday evening.

However, he will have to make do without Bashir Humphreys (quad), Aaron Ramsey (knee), Mike Tresor (unspecified injury) and Benson Manuel (Achilles).

The stats

QPR have not won any of their last five home matches.

Both teams have scored in seven of QPR’s last eight games.

Burnley are unbeaten in their last 31 Championship fixtures.

The Clarets have won four of their last five matches by a 2-1 scoreline.

Burnley have conceded less than two goals in all of their 44 Championship matches.

All of Burnley’s last nine away games have featured less than four goals.

Prediction

Burnley want to follow promotion by winning the Championship title and they can move up to first place by defeating QPR at Loftus Road.

Rock-solid defence has underpinned a superb season for Burnley, who have not lost a league match since a 1-0 reverse at Millwall in early November.

Parker’s side came from behind to secure recent away wins at Coventry (2-1) and Watford (2-1) and they should have too much quality for the Hoops, who have won just seven of 22 home league fixtures.

QPR recovered well from a slow start to the season but they have not won a home game since February and may struggle to cope with the Premier League-bound Clarets.
