Paris Saint-Germain to win

Bayern Munich started their Club World Cup campaign with a 10-0 victory over part-timers Auckland City but they are facing an entirely different challenge when coming up against tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Vincent Kompany’s team are used to dominating their opponents, but they might have to adapt their style against PSG, who are top of the tournament possession statistics with 71.9%.

PSG had a wobble during the group stage when losing 1-0 to Botafogo, but they delivered stellar performances during 4-0 wins over Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami.

Luis Enrique’s side seem to have gained confidence from their Champions League triumph and they will be aiming to end a poor run against Bayern, who have beaten them in each of the last four meetings.

Team news

Ousmane Dembele missed the group games with a thigh injury but returned as a second-half substitute in the 4-0 victory over Inter Miami. Bradley Barcola could make way if Dembele is deemed ready to return to the starting XI.

Marquinhos and Fabian Ruiz were withdrawn during last Sunday’s round-of-16 clash but should keep their places.

Bayern Munich are without Leroy Sane, who sealed a transfer to Galatasaray after making his final appearance for the club in last weekend’s 4-2 victory over Flamengo.

Kingsley Coman (muscle strain) is a doubt and Alphonso Davies (knee) and Hiroki Ito (foot) continue their recovery from long-term injuries.

Paris Saint-Germain have scored at least two goals in eight of their last nine fixtures.

PSG have won two of their four Club World Cup matches by a 4-0 scoreline.

Luis Enrique's men have kept clean sheets in five of their last six fixtures.

The Parisiens have scored inside the opening 20 minutes in four of their last six games.

Twelve of Bayern Munich’s last 14 matches have gone over 2.5 goals.

Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain are hungry to add another trophy to the cabinet and they can advance to the Club World Cup’s final four with a victory over Bayern Munich.

A clash of titans is on the cards with both teams preferring to focus on attack over defence.

However, Bayern did not quite get the balance right in the Champions League — succumbing 4-3 on aggregate to quarter-final opponents Inter — and they could leave themselves exposed against arguably the best team in the tournament.

PSG demolished Inter in the Champions League final and are showing no signs of taking their foot off the gas.

They have key attacker Ousmane Dembele back from injury and look equipped to go at least another step further.
