Arsenal will fear their title challenge is over following defeat to West Ham on Saturday, but they must quickly pick themselves up for another test at third-placed Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The Gunners are now 11 points behind leaders Liverpool after the Reds' victory at Manchester City as Mikel Arteta's side look set to have to settle for second best again this season.

Forest have enjoyed a fine campaign and remain well in contention for an unexpected top-four place, despite losing in dramatic circumstances, 4-3 at Newcastle on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito's men remain third, six points behind Wednesday's opponents, and three clear of City directly below.

Team news

Taiwo Awoniyi and Carlos Miguel continue to receive treatment for Forest and will not be ready to return in time for the midweek clash.

Arsenal's injury woes continue, particularly in attack, as Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka are all out for Arteta's side.

Gabriel Martinelli and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both also still absent for the visitors, while Myles Lewis-Skelly is suspended for the trip to the City Ground after being sent off at the weekend.

The stats

Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last six home league games, winning five and they have scored 15 goals during that run.

Chris Wood is Forest's top scorer this season with 18 league goals.

Kai Havertz, who is out injured, is the Gunners' top scorer this term with nine.

Arsenal won the reverse fixture 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in November.

Prediction

Arsenal will have watched on from behind the sofa as Liverpool confidently took a further step towards the title on Sunday, taking full advantage of the Gunners' surprise 1-0 Emirates defeat against the Hammers.

Arteta, of course, will not be surrendering the title any time soon but anything less than a win at the City Ground would in all probability mean their chances of overhauling Liverpool at the top would be over.

However, getting three points at Forest is not an easy task.

Nuno Espirito’s side have only lost twice at home in the league all season, beating the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brighton in front of their own fans recently, while Liverpool found it tough there in January, drawing 1-1.

The Tricky Trees have their own aims to shoot for in the weeks that remain and they will be desperate to ensure a rich season of promise is not left unfulfilled with a finish outside of the Champions League places.

Arsenal's lack of attacking options means they are entering the final months of the season without any recognised fit strikers and their lack of cutting edge up front could catch them out again in midweek, where the value selection looks to be the draw.
