- Josh Sargent gave Norwich the lead in their draw with Oxford over the weekend
- Sheffield Wednesday trail their 10th-placed opponents by a point
- Recommended Bet: Josh Sargent anytime goalscorer
Norwich suffered a disappointing result at the weekend as they failed to beat relegation-threatened Oxford at Carrow Road, leaving them in 10th position, six points shy of the play-off spots ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls took advantage against bottom club Plymouth last time out, helping themselves to a 3-0 victory to end a run of three straight defeats.
Team news
Norwich are facing a goalkeeping crisis, with regular shot-stopper Angus Gunn injured and George Long having missed Friday’s match against Oxford with concussion.
Vincente Reyes could start in goal again for a Canaries team also without the sidelined Ben Chrisene, Lucien Mahovo, Liam Gibbs, Amankwah Forson, Marcelino Nunez, Lewis Dobbin and Matej Jurasek.
Wednesday will be without Di’Shon Bernard, Akin Famewo, Yan Valery, Stuart Armstrong and Anthony Musaba.
The stats
&w=707&quality=100)
Norwich are unbeaten in four games, but have only claimed six points from a possible 12 during that run, winning once and drawing three.
Josh Sargent has scored eight goals in as many Championship games for the Canaries and has six from his last five at Carrow Road.
Wednesday’s victory against Plymouth last time out ended a run of three straight defeats.
The Owls have not won at Norwich since 2009, drawing twice and losing four times since then.
Prediction
This could be viewed as a crucial match between two teams on the fringes of the promotion fight, who both need to win to reignite their chances of reaching the play-offs.
Norwich’s unexpected draw with Oxford saw the gap between them and sixth-placed West Brom stretch to six points.
Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side have struggled for consistency all season, even at home, but the form of Sargent gives the Canaries hope, with the American forward scoring 12 goals in 22 league games and on course for his best ever campaign.
Wednesday are mathematically still in with a shout for promotion, with only seven points between the 13th-placed side and the play-off positions, but their own form will have to radically improve following that win at Plymouth.
The visitors have not won consecutive matches yet in 2025 and Norwich are strong enough at home to think that run will continue, with the in-form Sargent looking good value to add to his tally.
