Ange Postecoglou's Spurs should be buoyed by their 4-0 trouncing of Everton

- Newcastle have won only one of their last six matches inside 90 minutes
- Newcastle have won only five of their last 11 home games
- Recommended bet:
Tottenham to win

Top-four rivals Newcastle and Tottenham clash at St James' Park on Sunday and Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs look excellent value to leave the north east with three points.

The Magpies did well to see off Southampton 1-0 in their opener, having been reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute, but there was an element of fortune in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, with the Cherries having a late goal ruled out controversially.

Spurs will be disappointed to have been held to a 1-1 draw after dominating their first match at Leicester but they bounced back in fine style with a 4-0 thuumping of Everton.

Team news

Newcastle's Fabian Schar serves the final game of his three-match ban and Eddie Howe has a number of other selection issues.

Sven Botman, Lewis Miley, Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles are all out, while there are concerns over the fitness of Joe Willock, who limped off against Nottingham Forest in midweek.

Destiny Udogie should be fit to start for Spurs, but big-money signing Dominic Solanke looks unlikely to feature after picking up an ankle injury.

The stats

Eddie Howe's Newcastle have made a solid if unspectacular start and have a number of injuries to contend with

Newcastle have won only one of their last six matches inside 90 minutes.

Newcastle have won only five of their last 11 home games.

Spurs have conceded only four goals in their last five matches.

There have been 40 goals in the last nine meetings between Newcastle and Tottenham.

Both teams have scored in the last nine games between Newcastle and Tottenham.

Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in eight of the last nine games between these sides.

Prediction

Tottenham were seriously impressive when hammering Everton 4-0 last weekend and they look good value to make it back-to-back wins by beating Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s men hit 13 shots and 12 corners against the Toffees while they registered 15 shots and 13 corners in their Premier League opener against Leicester.

Postecoglou has beefed up his squad with the summer signings of Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Dominic Solanke, and while Solanke is unlikely to feature at St James’ Park, Spurs are a progressive and forward thinking side and they should be too good for Newcastle.

Eddie Howe has spoken of his frustration at the lack of incomings and the Toon Army could do with reinforcements given their lengthy injury list.

The Magpies have scored only three goals in their opening three matches of the season and they were fairly fortunate to get past Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Spurs look excellent value to leave St James’ Park with three points.
