Nesta Guinness-Walker scored the winner with his first touch as Northampton came from a goal down to beat fellow strugglers Bristol Rovers 2-1 at Sixfields.

Scott Sinclair put Rovers ahead early in the second half but the Cobblers fought back impressively as Dara Costelloe’s header and Guinness-Walker’s instant impact lifted them up to 17th in Sky Bet League One.

The home side were the more threatening team in the first half but clear-cut chances were few and far between.

Cameron McGeehan nearly forced an own goal and Mitch Pinnock’s fierce hit had to be tipped away by Joel Ward.

However, it was the visitors who then struck within two minutes of the restart. Isaac Hutchinson’s pass found Sinclair in acres of space and his pinpoint shot went in off the post.

Northampton responded well though and levelled just past the hour-mark, Max Dyche doing well to keep alive a deep free-kick before crossing for Costelloe to head in his first goal for the club.

The home side completed the turnaround with 12 minutes to play when Guinness-Walker scored with his first touch just moments after coming on, finishing coolly on the volley from McGeehan’s lofted cross.
