Nathan Lowe’s goal inspired promotion-chasing Walsall to a 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Jamie Jellis saw his threatening cut-back cleared behind for a corner as the visitors applied the pressure in the early stages.

At the other end, the Dons had a penalty appeal waved away by referee James Durkin after Omar Bugiel appeared to be pushed inside the box.

Lowe could have put the visitors ahead when he was sent through on goal at the start of the second half, but his shot was straight at Owen Goodman.

Lowe made amends for his mistake in the 51st minute as he tapped David Okagbue’s superb cross into the back of an empty net from close range.

Myles Hippolyte forced an excellent save from Tommy Simkin as the hosts pushed for an equaliser.

James Tilley’s corner caused chaos in the Walsall box in the 70th minute and when it was cleared, Josh Neufville thumped the crossbar with a powerful effort from distance.

Walsall limited the Dons to a few dangerous deliveries into the box during the final 20 minutes as they wrapped up an impressive 1-0 win.
