Two of the Championship's more inconsistent teams meet at The Den when Millwall entertain Portsmouth on Saturday.

Both Pompey and the Lions have had a mixed time of it in the second tier this season and, while the home side, who are 13th, still have a chance of reaching the play-offs, Pompey are stuck firmly in the bottom half as the season begins to draw to a close.

Portsmouth sit 17th, seven points clear of the bottom three, so will still be seeking something from their trip to south London to ensure they stay out of danger with just six more games to come after their journey to the capital.

However, it could be a difficult afternoon for the visitors, who go up against a Lions outfit with a solid recent home record in the Championship.

Team news

Wingers Camiel Neghli and Femi Azeez have been ruled out for Millwall, while Calum Scanlon and Dan McNamara are both still major doubts following their recent injuries.

For the visitors, Rob Atkinson is making good progress from injury but Saturday's game will come too soon for him. Maksym Talovierov and Brendan Galloway remain on the absentee list.

The stats

Millwall have lost only one of their last five home matches.

The Lions won the earlier clash this season at Fratton Park 1-0 in January and also triumphed by the same scoreline away back in August in a Carabao Cup first-round tie.

Mihailo Ivanovic is Millwall's top scorer in the league this season with six goals, while Pompey's leading scorer is Callum Lang, who has 10 goals but he has not featured since mid-February.

Millwall have won the last five meetings in all competitions between the teams.

Portsmouth have won only two away games in the Championship this season.

Prediction

These two sides have different aims in what is left of the Championship season with the Lions still harbouring hopes of crashing the play-off party, while Pompey must be guarded against getting dragged into trouble at the bottom at this late stage.

Realistically, it looks like both will finish safely enough somewhere between seventh and 20th, though, and that is a scenario they would probably have taken had it been offered to them at the start of the campaign.

Millwall, who have won eight times at home this season in the Championship, are favoured to edge this clash, although entertainment may be at a premium and a low-scoring contest looks likely.

Pompey's away form over the course of the campaign has been fairly dismal as the south coast outfit have picked up just two victories on the road all season and they look set for another difficult afternoon on Saturday.
