Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is hoping Armando Broja can take confidence from ending his 11-game goal drought after the Blues overcame Preston.

An impressive second-half showing saw the hosts score four times at Stamford Bridge and cruise into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 win.

Broja broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with a well-directed header beyond the reach of goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

Thiago Silva added a second from close range before Raheem Sterling's brilliantly arched free-kick all but confirmed Chelsea's progress three minutes later.

Enzo Fernandez rounded off the win by reacting quickest to a scramble inside the box to fire a fourth into the back of the net.

Pochettino was especially pleased with Broja's contribution following a barren run in the final third.

The Argentine boss said: "He should smile, be positive and change his body language.

"I think when he performs well and finds the net he will improve. It's important for the team and for him to improve his confidence."

The 22-year-old striker was in agreement with his coach and made clear his wish to build on his performance against the Championship outfit.

He said: "Coming off the bench and playing a few games and not scoring is not easy. I'm really excited and happy I could get that goal today.

"Hopefully there are many more in the future. Moments like that is what makes you happy and puts a smile on your face.

"A lot of people don't see the down days. There's a lot of pressure on your shoulders when you're expected to score every game.

"I try to leave the down days behind me and look ahead to the good days. Today was one of those better days."
