- City can move up to third with a win
- A six-match win streak has moved Wolves up to 13th
- Recommended bet:
Manchester City to win and both teams to score

Last week was an excellent one for Manchester City as they made big strides towards ensuring a disappointing season does not end in complete disaster, beating Aston Villa 2-1 to move up fourth in the Premier League before defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Their form has improved massively in recent weeks and they will be keen to finish in the top five and dine at Europe’s top table again next term, but they will not be the most red-hot team running out at the Etihad this week.

Their visitors, Wolves, have won six straight games and Wanderers could pose the Citizens a few issues on Friday night.

Team news

Rodri, Erling Haaland, John Stones and Nathan Ake remain out for the hosts and may not play in the Premier League again this season, with being fit for the FA Cup final now the priority.

Sasa Kalajdzic, Leon Chiwome, Enso Gonzalez and Yerson Mosquera are injured for Wolves, while youngster Pedro Lima and back-up goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will be assessed.

The stats

Manchester City are on an eight-match unbeaten run, winning six times in that spell.

Not only are Wolves on a six-game winning streak, they have also won their last four away matches in the Premier League.

City’s only clean sheet in six home games came against the Premier League’s second-lowest scorers, Leicester.

Both teams scored in the last three meetings between this pair.

Jorgen Strand Larsen has netted six goals during Wolves’ impressive recent winning streak.

Omar Marmoush has scored three goals in his last four appearances at the Etihad.

Prediction

Confidence should be high in the Manchester City camp after making a third straight FA Cup final and there was a professionalism about their performance against Forest, which has been lacking for the majority of this season.

Because of their poor form in the middle of the season, third is now realistically the best the Citizens can hope for — second is within reach, but they would need Arsenal to lose twice in their final four games — but they can take a big step towards achieving that goal by securing three points on Friday.

City have beaten Leicester and Aston Villa and routed their FA Cup final opponents, Crystal Palace, 5-2 in their last three matches at the Etihad, suggesting that Pep Guardiola, after an unexpectedly difficult campaign, has now finally found a recipe for success again.

The Spaniard has brought in youngster Nico O’Reilly at left-back, reintroduced Kevin De Bruyne to the starting XI and found a way to get more out of Marmoush and Jeremy Doku, making City a formidable force again.

However, Wolves will not let their win streak be snapped without a fight, and they can net in defeat at the Etihad, where the Citizens have managed just one clean sheet in six home matches - that coming against Leicester, who have scored in just one of their last 11 Premier League games.
