- There have been at least three goals in 13 of Man City’s last 15 home games
- Newcastle have scored at least twice in each of their last seven away matches
- Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals

Two late goals from Real Madrid have left Manchester City with a difficult task to make the last 16 of the Champions League and their hopes of qualifying for next season's competition would receive a blow if they fell to defeat against Newcastle on Saturday.

The Magpies also have their eyes on an invitation back to European football's top table and with their confidence sky high following a strong run of away form, there could be plenty of goals at the Etihad Stadium.

Team news

Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji are doubtful after suffering injuries against Real Madrid in midweek while Rodri remains sidelined with a knee problem for the Citizens.

Newcastle's Anthony Gordon faces a late test on a thigh problem while Sven Botman and Dan Burn are struggling. Harvey Barnes, Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles have been ruled out.

The stats

Just two of Manchester City's last 15 home games have failed to generate at least three goals.

Both teams have scored in 11 of City’s last 14 league and cup matches.

The Citizens have netted at least twice in seven of their last nine games on their own patch.

Newcastle have scored at least twice in each of their last seven away matches.

The Magpies have come out on top in each of their last six road league and cup games.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has scored 10 goals in his last eight Premier League away matches.

Prediction

Man City's season could become even more underwhelming if they fail to progress in the Champions League, but they cannot take qualification for next season's competition for granted, so they should go on the front foot against Newcastle.

However, such an approach could leave them vulnerable against the Magpies, who are on a great streak of league and cup victories on the road and there have been enough slip-ups from City on their own patch to encourage Eddie Howe's side.

Admittedly the visitors have failed to score in their last six trips to the Etihad and have posted just one victory over Pep Guardiola's side in their 14 most recent meetings.

But they have discovered the strong habit of finding the net multiple times in their away games and have a striker in Alexander Isak who has come on leaps and bounds this term and now rivals City's Erling Haaland as one of the most feared forwards in the top flight.

Inter Milan, Sparta Prague, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Salford City are the only visiting teams who have failed to score at City's home this season and it seems likely that this highly anticipated clash between the top-four pretenders will not disappoint.
