Luton have been showing plenty of spirit in their battle against the drop but they remain inside the drop zone as they prepare to take on Coventry in their penultimate match of the campaign.

The Hatters had a productive Easter, securing victories away to Derby (1-0) and at home to Bristol City (3-1), but they need to keep their foot on the pedal as they strive to avoid a second successive relegation.

It was less than two years ago that Luton won a penalty shootout against Coventry in the Championship play-off final.

But Coventry have been the superior side this term and approach the final two games needing four points to guarantee a play-off place.

Team news

Luton's attacking options continue to be restricted with Elijah Adebayo (knee) and Jacob Brown (ankle) ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Wing-back Alfie Doughty (hamstring) will also be absent until the summer but Marvelous Nakamba and Shandon Baptiste were among the substitutes for Monday's 3-1 victory at home to Bristol City and will be pushing for more prominent roles in the remaining matches.

Coventry goalkeeper Oliver Dovin (knee) continues his long road back to fitness and attacker Ephron Mason-Clark (foot) and midfielder Victor Torp (ankle) remain on the sidelines.

Defender Bobby Thomas (calf) has missed the last three matches and will need to be assessed, while Josh Eccles (calf) was an unused substitute in Monday’s 3-1 loss at Plymouth.

The stats

Luton have conceded less than two goals in each of their last eight games.

The Hatters have opened the scoring in four of their last six fixtures.

Luton have gathered seven points from their last three home matches against Coventry.

Coventry have not kept a clean sheet in their last six away fixtures.

Four of Coventry’s last six away games have generated at least three goals.

Luton have registered back-to-back wins for the first time since September and they can make it three wins on the bounce by defeating Coventry at Kenilworth Road.

Town have been inside the relegation zone for over three months but they are going through their best spell of the campaign with 18 points gathered from their last 10 matches.

Matt Bloomfield has got the team playing to their strengths by defending well and utilising the physical prowess of key centre-forward Carlton Morris.

Luton’s direct style caused problems for Bristol City and it could expose weaknesses at the heart of Coventry’s rearguard.

The Sky Blues struggled against a physical approach on Monday when they were beaten 3-1 at Plymouth, and they might have to go through a similar experience against the in-form Hatters.
