Liverpool vs Wolves predictions: Leaders can get back on track

&w=707&quality=100)
- Liverpool have lost to Plymouth and drawn with Everton in their last two matches
- Wolves arrive at Anfield following consecutive 2-0 wins
- Recommended bet: Liverpool to win and under 3.5 goals
James Tarkowski’s stunning 98th-minute equaliser cost Liverpool all three points on their final visit to Goodison Park as they failed to bounce back from Sunday’s shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship Plymouth.
However, they are unlikely to falter again when hosting Wolves, who, despite a solid 2-0 win over Aston Villa in their last Premier League match, are still firmly in a relegation fight.
There is plenty of quality in Wanderers’ squad but a trip to Anfield is always a tough task and the hosts will be eager to shake off any fears that they are about to bottle the title race by taking all three points.
Team news
Curtis Jones is suspended following his involvement in a scuffle with Abdoulaye Doucoure after full-time in the Merseyside derby, meaning he misses out alongside Liverpool’s injury absentees, Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton.
Cody Gakpo will be assessed while Reds manager Arne Slot was also sent off after the final whistle and will be in the stands.
Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez and Sasa Kalajdzic are injured for Wolves while Jorgen Strand Larsen, Hee Chan Hwang and Boubacar Traore must be assessed.
The stats
&w=707&quality=100)
Liverpool are unbeaten in 20 Premier League games, winning 14 of those.
Wolves have won just two of their last 18 Premier League away matches.
Only two of Liverpool’s last five Premier League games have featured over 3.5 goals.
Wolves have conceded just one goal across their last three matches.
Prediction
Liverpool fans, players and Arne Slot himself will all be eager to get back on track after Wednesday’s heartbreaking draw and last Sunday’s quadruple-ending FA Cup exit, and all involved with the Premier League leaders should get their wish this weekend.
A visit from Wolves is up there with one of the kindest fixtures in the Premier League, with even the absence of Slot in the dugout — the Dutchman was sent off in the aftermath of the Goodison stalemate — unlikely to stop the Reds from rediscovering their winning touch.
Wanderers have shown promise under Vitor Pereira in recent weeks, beating Aston Villa 2-0 before recording a repeat scoreline in the FA Cup fourth round against a gutsy Blackburn, but two wins from 18 Premier League away games is a worry and they lack the tools to end Liverpool’s 20-match unbeaten run in the top flight.
Wolves are, however, unlikely to be blown away at Anfield. Pereira’s side conceded just once against Arsenal in a defeat last month and have followed up that strong showing with back-to-back clean sheets.
Just one of the last six meetings between these sides, and only two of Liverpool’s last five league games, have gone over 3.5 goals and it could pay to combine the under with a home win in a bet builder for Sunday’s clash.
