Tottenham picked up a shock 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, but the Lilywhites are a big price to repeat the trick at Anfield given the Reds’ dominance this season.

Arne Slot’s side are six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand and also finished first in the Champions League league phase, winning seven out of seven before being edged out 3-2 by PSV Eindhoven.

Team news

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is a major doubt for this clash due to thigh a injury, while a similar problem will definitely see Trent Alexander-Arnold miss out.

Jayden Danns has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield, but has joined Sunderland on loan until the end of the season so will not feature here.

Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin is the latest long-term injury for Tottenham after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

He joins Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke on the sidelines.

Returning central defender Micky van de Ven played 45 minutes against Elfsborg last week, but did not feature against Brentford at the weekend with Ange Postecoglou stating that his workload was being managed.

Ange Postecoglou has had to cope with a whole host of injury problems this season.

The stats

Liverpool have only lost one of their last 27 home games against Tottenham in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last nine EFL Cup games at home, winning the last four in a row by an aggregate score of 15-4.

Liverpool’s Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has been involved in nine goals in his last six appearances against Spurs in all competitions.

Postecoglou’s Spurs side have lost three of the last five times that they have won the first leg of an EFL Cup semi-final.

Prediction

Tottenham hold a one-goal lead going into this EFL Cup semi-final second leg, but they look up against it as they take on a Liverpool team who have been in devastating form this season.

While Mo Salah has deservedly taken plenty of the plaudits, Netherlands international Cody Gakpo has taken his game to a new level this season and cemented his position on the left side of the Reds' forward line.

The Dutchman has 15 goals in all competitions and could be a spot of value to add to that tally against a Spurs team who have been decimated by injuries and who look vulnerable at Anfield.

That looks to be especially tempting with the majority of the Lilywhites' injury problems surrounding defenders, as well as first-choice goalkeeper Vicario.
