Liverpool passed a massive test with Sunday’s 2-0 victory away to Manchester City and will aim to strengthen their grip on the title race when hosting Newcastle at Anfield on Wednesday.

Arne Slot’s side have moved 11 points clear of Arsenal and approach their latest task full of confidence having put together an unbeaten sequence of 23 league games.

There were some nerves flying around the previous weekend when the Reds scraped a 2-1 success at home to Wolves, but they were back to their best against City and appear to be cruising towards a first league title since 2019-20.

But Slot’s side have continued piling up Premier League points and they look more secure than ever after a weekend when everything went their way.

Newcastle snapped a two-game top-flight losing run with Sunday’s 4-3 success at home to Forest and may still have a say in the race for Champions League qualification.

But they sit 20 points beneath the leaders and a gulf in class could be evident at Anfield where the hosts look overpriced to win by at least two goals.
