Liverpool are expected to seal the Premier League title in the coming weeks as Arne Slot's side sit comfortably clear of nearest challengers Arsenal heading into the run-in.

The leaders still have some difficult fixtures to navigate, though, and Wednesday's Merseyside derby at home to Everton is chief among them.

The Blues, who deservedly held the Reds to a 2-2 draw in February's fiery rearranged clash at Goodison, will have designs again on upsetting their rivals' title pursuit and they are much improved since David Moyes returned as Blues boss.

Team news

Liverpool expect Alisson to be fit despite suffering a head knock while on international duty with Brazil. Similarly, Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate picked up minor injuries during the break but they are set to be fine to start in midweek.

Conor Bradley could be back in the squad but is unlikely to start, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez remain on the sidelines.

Everton duo Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have returned to training, but the derby clash is set to come too soon for them.

Vitalii Mykolenko is doubtful for the visitors after he suffered a setback on international duty, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains out.

The stats

Liverpool have lost just one league game all season.

Liverpool have won their last three home league derbies against Everton 2-0.

Everton have won once at Anfield since 1999.

There has been a first half goal scored in each of Liverpool's last nine home games.

Both teams have scored in Everton's last six games.

Only three teams have picked up fewer points than Everton's away tally of 15 so far this season.

Prediction

Liverpool should be too good for Everton again at Anfield on Wednesday as Slot's side are set to have benefitted from a lengthy break, having not played since the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle in mid-March.

During their disappointing Wembley showing, and in several other games in the past few months, Liverpool have looked leggy as a hectic schedule clearly took its toll.

However, they should now be fresh again and ready to prove why they have streaked clear at the top of the table this term by securing a goal-laden home derby win.

The Reds have been free-scoring at Anfield this season, registering a division-high 31 goals at home in total, and they have scored at least twice in all but one of their home league games.

With what is at stake and the home side keen to avenge Everton's late draw in the Goodison showdown just seven weeks ago, expect Liverpool to rack up the goals in a statement midweek victory over their nearest foes.
