After a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between Borussia Dortmund and Lille, a tight affair is anticipated for Wednesday's return clash in France.

The Black and Yellows dominated the first half at home and led 1-0 at half-time through Karim Adeyemi's sweet strike, but Hakon Haraldsson's deserved late leveller gives Lille plenty of hope.

Dortmund then suffered an underwhelming 1-0 home defeat to Augsburg that left them 10th in the Bundesliga and led to Niko Kovac threatening changes amid crisis talk at the club.

Meanwhile, Lille go into Wednesday's game on the back of a confidence-boosting 1-0 win over Montpellier in which top scorer Jonathan David netted his 22nd goal of the season.

Team news

Lille boss Bruno Genesio looks likely to name an unchanged line-up from the first leg, having rotated a couple of players to keep things fresh at the weekend.

Left-back Ismaily should return in place of Mitchel Bakker, while Ngal'ayel Mukau can expect to regain his place in midfield.

Tiago Santos (knee) and Edon Zhegrova (groin) are still unavailable because of injury.

As for Borussia Dortmund, changes can be expected after Kovac told the squad that there were no excuses for the performance against Augsburg on Saturday.

Julian Brandt could make way for Maximilian Beier in the number 10 role and Julien Duranville's display off the bench could push Jamie Gittens out of the line-up.

Ramy Bensebaini will deputise for injured Daniel Svensson (knee) at left-back and Carney Chukwuemeka could be in contention for a spot on the bench after overcoming a knee problem.

The stats

Lille have never made it past the round of 16 stage in the Champions League.

Les Dogues have won only two of their 12 European competition matches against German clubs, drawing five and losing five.

Both teams have scored in 11 of Lille's last 13 matches in all competitions.

Dortmund have scored the first goal in all five of their Champions League away games this season.

The Bundesliga club's record in two-legged ties against French clubs is now four wins and three losses after they beat Paris Saint-Germain home and away in the semi-finals of last season's competition.

However, Dortmund have lost seven of the eight European ties in which they drew at home in the first leg.

Prediction

Lille's Jonathan David could play a big part in Wednesday's clash

The second leg could begin quite cautiously, with Lille on the brink of achieving something historic and Dortmund determined to stay in the competition.

Each team has a deadly marksman up front and whichever one has the better evening could tip the balance of the tie their team's way.

David is in phenomenal form, having registered five goals in his last nine appearances, plus the crucial assist for Haraldsson's equaliser in Germany.

But Serhou Guirassy just has the edge at the moment after banging in a remarkable 24 goals in 34 competitive games for Dortmund this season.

He has struck a total of 11 goals in his last 12 appearances for the Bundesliga club and should be desperate to do well back on his old stomping ground, having scored only once in nine outings for Lille back in 2015-16.
