Liam Hogan’s late own goal denied Rochdale victory in a 1-1 draw at mid-table Vanarama National League rivals Southend.
Devante Rodney gave Dale a 21st-minute lead, reacting quickest to head home a rebound after Southend captain Nathan Ralph had cleared an effort off his goal-line.
Southend went close when Oli Coker’s effort looped on to the crossbar and Rodney blazed another chance over for the visitors from in front of goal before the interval.
Dale were indebted to skipper Kyron Gordon in the second period when he blocked a thumping shot from Gus Scott-Morriss on the goal-line, but with six minutes remaining Hogan diverted Macauley Bonne’s cross into his own net to share the spoils.
