Diego Simeone will be targeting three points from a trip to Espanyol
Diego Simeone will be targeting three points from a trip to Espanyol

- Real Madrid host struggling Leganes on Saturday night
- Barcelona are at home to Girona on Sunday afternoon
- Las Palmas visit Celta Vigo to round off the weekend programme on Monday

There are tight races at the top and bottom of the table in Spain, with most teams having just 10 games left to play.

We look ahead to all 10 matches as the teams return to action after the international break and have a score prediction for each one.

Real Sociedad vs Valladolid (Saturday, 1:00pm)

Valladolid are nine points adrift at the bottom of the table and have lost 13 of their 14 league away games. They have taken only one point from their last nine matches and mid-table Sociedad have a great opportunity to end their own six-game winless run.

Score prediction: Real Sociedad 2-0 Valladolid

Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid (Saturday, 3:15pm)

Third-placed Atletico Madrid should relish an easier test after three of their last four matches were showdowns with Real Madrid and Barcelona, but 15th-placed Espanyol can make them fight for the points. The hosts are unbeaten in their last eight home games and held Atleti to a goalless draw in August.

Score prediction: Espanyol 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Alaves vs Rayo Vallecano (Saturday, 5:30pm)

Alaves are in the relegation battle in 17th but they have avoided defeat in four of their last five games. Vallecano should prove to be just too strong but it is likely to be tight and a repeat of their 1-0 win over Alaves from October is a realistic outcome.

Score prediction: Alaves 0-1 Real Vallecano

Real Madrid vs Leganes (Saturday, 8:00pm)

Real Madrid have already beaten Leganes away twice this season, 3-0 in the league and 3-2 with a much-changed side in the Copa Del Rey, so they should have few problems adding a third success at the Bernabeu. The visitors have lost six of their last eight games and will have much better opportunities to earn points than this.

Score prediction: Real Madrid 3-0 Leganes

Getafe vs Villarreal (Sunday, 1:00pm)

Getafe scored a late equaliser in their first league meeting with Villarreal and another 1-1 draw looks quite possible. The hosts side have drawn half of their 14 home league matches this season while fifth-placed Villarreal have suffered only four away defeats.

Score prediction: Getafe 1-1 Villarreal

Barcelona vs Girona (Sunday, 3:15pm)

There's a symmetry to the form for this match with Barcelona winning 10 of their last 11 games while Girona have won only one of their last 11. The leaders should have few problems staying clear of the pack with a decisive home win.

Score prediction: Barcelona 3-0 Girona

Athletic Bilbao vs Osasuna (Sunday, 5:30pm)

Ernesto Valverde and Athletic Bilbao have a terrific home record
Ernesto Valverde and Athletic Bilbao have a terrific home record

Fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao have lost only one of their 14 home league games while Osasuna are poor travellers, with just one win and seven goals scored in 13 away matches. Bilbao can complete a double over their visitors with a clean-sheet success.

Score prediction: Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Osasuna

Valencia vs Mallorca (Sunday, 5:30pm)

Valencia are fighting hard to stay out of the relegation zone and Atletico Madrid are the only team to beat them in their last six games. Mallorca are unbeaten in six themselves but four of those matches were 1-1 draws and another can't be ruled out.

Score prediction: Valencia 1-1 Mallorca

Real Betis vs Sevilla (Sunday, 8:00pm)

Manuel Pellegrini has watched Real Betis win five of their last six games
Manuel Pellegrini has watched Real Betis win five of their last six games

Real Betis are going well with five wins in their last six matches and they are capable of extending their winning streak to four against Sevilla. The visitors have not scored more than once in their last four outings and could be edged out.

Score prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Sevilla

Celta Vigo vs UD Las Palmas (Monday, 8:00pm)

Celta Vigo would be upset if they had their six-match unbeaten run ended in the Monday night spotlight by struggling Las Palmas, but that's not likely to happen. The visitors are winless in their last 11 games, losing eight of them, and they lost 4-1 in this fixture last season.

Score prediction: Celta Vigo 2-1 Las Palmas
