Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed star duo James Maddison and Micky van de Ven will be sidelined until the start of next year.

Both playmaker Maddison and defender Van de Ven were substituted in Monday night's 4-1 home defeat to Chelsea and will be absent for at least seven weeks.

Postecoglou told the club's website: "Micky, as we saw the other night, has a fairly significant hamstring injury.

"Without putting a firm timeline on it, it's at least a couple of months out for him so we're looking at the New Year with him.

"Similar with Madders. He got quite a significant ankle injury the other night and was sent for scans. That wasn't great, so he'll be out for a period of time, probably into the New Year for him as well."

The news will come as a huge blow to Spurs who had been enjoying a fine start to the season under their Aussie boss.

Postecoglou's men sit second in the Premier League table after 11 games, only trailing leaders Manchester City by a point.

But they must now kick-start their campaign without two key players, starting with tomorrow's trip to Wolves.

Maddison is sidelined with an ankle problem while Van de Ven has a hamstring issue.

Brazilian forward Richarlison meanwhile has undergone surgery on a groin injury.

Postecoglou added: "Richy had his surgery. To be fair to him, he's kind of battled through it pretty much for the whole season so far.

"With the international window coming up, it gave us the chance to get it done now. He should only be [out] for four weeks at this stage so not too long after the international break."
