James Collins converted an 88th-minute penalty at the second attempt to rescue a point for Lincoln at Wigan in Sky Bet League One.

Wigan were quickly up and running and Dale Taylor saw an early chance deflected wide for a corner.

But at the other end, Lincoln came within inches of taking the lead in sensational fashion when Tom Bayliss sent a free-kick fizzing over the wall and was desperately unlucky to see it cannon back off the crossbar.

Wigan suffered a huge blow on 25 minutes when Silko Thomas had to be stretchered off after lengthy treatment to his left leg.

But the home side did not let it affect them and they took the lead nine minutes before the break.

On-loan Nottingham Forest forward Taylor won possession and fed Jonny Smith, who finished coolly into the bottom corner of the net.

The visitors were awarded a penalty with two minutes to go when James Carragher was penalised for holding Adam Jackson at a Lincoln corner.

Sam Tickle saved Collins’ spot-kick but the Lincoln man slotted home the rebound.
