Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan are closing in on a place in the Champions League quarter-finals

- Inter Milan have the best defensive record in this season's Champions League
- Feyenoord have gone six matches without an away win in all competitions
- Recommended bet:
Inter Milan to win to nil

Inter Milan already have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals as they prepare to host Feyenoord in the second leg of their last-16 tie at the Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday.

Goals from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez helped the Nerazzurri to a 2-0 success during last week's first leg in Rotterdam and, barring a shock turnaround, they will expect to progress.

Hope is not completely lost for Feyenoord though, as they have already seen off Inter's city rivals AC Milan to reach this stage of the competition.

Team news

Inter were dealt an injury blow at the weekend, as midfielder Piotr Zielinski was forced off with a reported calf issue just three minutes after coming on as a substitute during his side's 3-2 Serie A success over Monza.

Given the quick turnaround, the Poland international is not expected to feature on Tuesday and looks set to join Federico Dimarco, Nicola Zalewski and Matteo Darmian on the treatment table.

Goalkeeper Yann Sommer was amongst the substitutes against Monza, but he remains a doubt after undergoing thumb surgery last month.

New Feyenoord head coach Robin van Persie is dealing with an extensive injury list, with first-choice goalkeeper Justin Bijlow and captain Quinten Timber expected to be ruled out alongside Hwang In-beom, Bart Nieuwkoop, Calvin Stengs, Gernot Trauner and Antoni Milambo.

Winger Ibrahim Osman will also miss the game through suspension after he picked up his third yellow card of the competition during the first leg.

The stats

Inter boast the best defensive record in this season's Champions League, conceding just once across their nine matches.

Simone Inzaghi's side are unbeaten in their last 13 home matches in the competition, winning 11 of those, with their last such defeat coming against Bayern Munich in September 2002.

The Nerazzurri have not even conceded a goal in their last six European games at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Feyenoord have only won once in five matches across all competitions and have failed to score in their two games since former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Van Persie took over as head coach.

The Dutch side did triumph in the last European knockout tie between these two teams, claiming a 3-2 aggregate success in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2002 – a tournament they went on to win.

Prediction

Inter were deserved winners of last week's first leg and given their standout defensive record in the Champions League, particularly on home soil, they should have enough to see off Feyenoord with something to spare.

Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Monaco have all left the Giuseppe Meazza this season having both lost and failed to score and it is difficult to see this depleted Feyenoord team – that are yet to find the back of the net under Van Persie – bucking that trend.

This could be rather serene progress for Inter, who are not only capable of shutting out Feyenoord, but like they showed through Thuram and Martinez during the first leg, they have the attacking talents to hurt their opponents at the other end.
