Hull vs Plymouth predictions: Tigers can take a step towards safety

&w=707&quality=100)
- Three of Plymouth’s last four away losses in the Championship have been by a 2-0 scoreline
- Hull have won three of their last six matches against Plymouth without conceding any goals
- Recommended bet: Hull to win 2-0
Plymouth’s impressive FA Cup run came to an end with a respectable 3-1 loss away to Manchester City but the rest of their season will be concentrated on the battle for Championship survival, starting with a key encounter against Hull at the MKM Stadium.
The Devonians slipped to second bottom at the weekend after relegation rivals Luton won 1-0 at home to Portsmouth.
But they are just three points adrift of fourth-bottom Hull, who have lacked the consistency to pull away from danger.
Hull have not posted back-to-back wins for over five months and are approaching the Plymouth game under pressure due to last Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Cardiff.
Team news
Hull are reeling from serious knee injuries to Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry and midfielder Eliot Matazo, which has ruled both out for the rest of the campaign.
Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi (both knee) are also long-term absentees.
Ryan Hardie (back) missed the 1-1 draw at home to Cardiff and the 3-1 loss away to Manchester City and will need to be assessed.
Brendan Galloway (leg) and Muhamed Tijani (hamstring) are absent but Joe Edwards (hamstring) was an unused substitute at the Etihad and may be ready to make his long-awaited return from injury.
The stats
&w=707&quality=100)
Hull have scored the first goal in four of their last six matches.
Each of the Tigers’ last four games have featured less than four goals.
All of Hull’s last four victories have been accompanied by clean sheets.
Plymouth have lost 13 of their last 18 away fixtures.
Argyle have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine Championship matches.
Prediction
Hull have been relying on their away form in the battle against the drop but they can post a first home win since December when taking on fellow strugglers Plymouth in a high stakes encounter.
The Tigers have shown quality against some tough opponents by registering recent victories away to Sheffield United (3-0) and Sunderland (1-0) but they have been letting themselves down against the teams in their area of the table.
Ruben Selles’s side kicked off February with a 2-1 loss at home to Stoke and finished the month with a damaging 1-0 reverse at Cardiff.
But they should be recharged after a free weekend and can justify odds-on favouritism against Plymouth, who remain winless on their Championship travels.
Plymouth put a massive effort into Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash at Manchester City and may not be mentally and physically recovered in time for their trip to Yorkshire.
