An entertaining final-day encounter saw Leicester end their Women’s Super League season with a 4-2 victory over West Ham.
Hannah Cain and Viviane Asseyi each scored twice in a game of spectacular goals, with Janice Cayman and Sam Tierney also finding the net.
The victory lifted Leicester above Tottenham to finish the campaign in 10th place, one spot below their opponents, who slipped to ninth.
The tone of the game was set in the ninth minute when Cayman fired a first-time volley into the top corner from the edge of the area after Cain had seen a shot blocked.
Brave goalkeeping from Kinga Szemik prevented the hosts having a chance to make it two, while at the other end, Janina Leitzig needed to be alert to push a long-range effort from Katrina Gorry over the crossbar.
West Ham almost equalised in the 19th minute but Asseyi’s clever chip sailed over Leitzig and against the bar.
It was Leicester’s turn to hit the woodwork soon after, a mistake at the back from the Hammers allowing Cain to set up Yuka Momiki for a shot against the foot of the post.
Manuela Pavi had an effort blocked as West Ham pushed again for an equaliser but – 10 minutes before half-time – Cain broke free of the visiting defence and slotted in at the second attempt after Szemik had saved her first effort.
West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner sent on Amber Tysiak and Oona Siren for the second half, and in the 57th minute they pulled one back, Asseyi heading in smartly at the near post after Cayman had inadvertently flicked on a cross.
That kicked off a spell of four goals in 12 minutes, with Leicester immediately restoring their two-goal advantage as Cain again raced away, this time sending a neat chip over Szemik.
Arguably the goal of the game came in the 63rd minute, Asseyi choosing to shoot from a free-kick well wide of the penalty area and beating Leitzig for pace.
Again Leicester responded quickly, though, Tierney this time profiting from far too much space behind the West Ham defence and sending a fine first-time finish from range over the despairing Szemik.
Cain headed wide as she sought a hat-trick but the Foxes had done enough to secure a first victory in five games.
