With just two PGA events left before the top 70 are decided for the FedEx Cup play-offs, there is a lot at stake over the next couple of weeks, starting with the 3M Open in Minnesota.
Several players in the field at TPC Twin Cities are looking to improve their position in the standings to ensure they make the end-of-season extravaganza and this week's event presents an opportunity to gain valuable ranking points.
Finau ready for second 3M title
This season has not panned out the way Tony Finau would have hoped for at the beginning of 2025 but he is still inside the top 60 of the FedEx Cup rankings and all will seem right with the world if he claims the title this week.
Ranked 46th in the world, the 35-year-old's first three cracks at the 3M Open produced efforts of 23rd, third and 28th before he finally cracked the code with a three-shot victory in 2022.
A top-10 finish on his title defence and a tied-12th effort in 2024 is further evidence of his affinity for this course and he does arrive here off the back of some positive play at The Open at Royal Portrush last week.
Finau was in the mix after the first two rounds, sitting on four-under-par, only to fall away over the weekend, but the fact he played so well over the opening 36 holes on a difficult course should serve him well ahead of this week's easier test.

Thorbjornsen can break PGA duck
Currently 86th in the FedEx Cup standings, Michael Thorbjornsen knows he needs a solid couple of weeks to reach the play-offs and he looks capable of earning a big result at the 3M Open.
The 23-year-old American, yet to win his first PGA Tour title, arrives in solid form with his last three starts seeing him finish tied-fourth (Rocket Classic), T21 (John Deere Classic) and T14 (Isco Championship).
Fourth in greens in regulation on the US circuit this season, Thorbjornsen, a solid driver of the ball who packs a real punch, has impressed with his approach play and that should stand him in good stead this week.

Hoey to make his mark
Rico Hoey has more work than the other two selections if he wants to reach the play-offs, as he sits in 98th position, but this week's test should be right up his street.
The 29-year-old Philippines ace is second in greens in regulation, leaving just Scottish Open champion Chris Gotterup ahead of him in this department, and that sharp approach play could be key to success.
Hoey has been building confidence nicely over the past few weeks, going T11 at the John Deere, T34 at the ISCO Championship and tied-eighth at the Barracuda Championship, and another strong showing could be in the offing.
