Denmark vs Scotland predictions: Patient approach should pay off for Danes

Denmark's last home defeat in World Cup qualifying came in October 2016
Scotland are aiming to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998
Recommended bet: Tie/Denmark Half Time/Full Time
Scotland were denied a place at the 2022 World Cup by Ukraine, losing 3-1 in a play-off at Hampden Park, and they face a tough task to reach the 2026 finals.
The Scots have not appeared at a World Cup since 1998 and Steve Clarke's men have been drawn against Denmark, Greece and Belarus in Group C of the European qualifying competition.
They kick off their campaign away to a talented Denmark side who were unfortunate to lose to Germany in the last-16 stage at Euro 2024 and have only been beaten by Spain and Portugal since then.
Team news
Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is back in the Denmark squad after a long-term injury but may not be rushed into the starting line-up.
Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard is sidelined and young Newcastle striker William Osula has been called up to replace the injured Victor Jensen.
Scotland's only significant injury absentees are veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon and Everton right-back Nathan Patterson.
Che Adams should start up front after his hat-trick against Liechtenstein in June and Nottingham Forest's Angus Gunn is likely to get the nod in goal.

The stats
Denmark have won four of their last six home games to nil.
The Danes were leading at half-time in only one of their last eight internationals.
Denmark have won 10 of their last 11 World Cup qualifiers.
Four of Scotland's last five matches featured over 2.5 goals.
Scotland have won their last three away fixtures.
The Scots opened the scoring in four of their last five Nations League matches.
Prediction
After Scotland's disappointing group-stage exit at Euro 2024, they bounced back with some impressive displays in the top flight of the Nations League.
The Scots took seven points from their final three games, holding Portugal to a 0-0 draw before beating Croatia and Poland and avoided automatic relegation to League B.
Scott McTominay's penalty gave them an excellent 1-0 win away to Greece in the first leg of March's promotion/relegation play-off but a 3-0 home defeat in the return leg meant Clarke's men were demoted to the second tier.
No firm conclusions should be drawn from June's friendly results, a 3-1 home defeat to Iceland and a 4-0 rout of Liechtenstein, but Scotland should be competitive on their trip to Denmark.
Backing the draw at half-time and Denmark to be winning at full-time looks the best bet as Scotland started most of their Nations League fixtures strongly before fading late on.
They conceded an injury-time penalty to lose 3-2 at home to Poland in September 2024 and took the lead in 2-1 away defeats to Portugal and Croatia.
Denmark had won 10 World Cup qualifying matches on the spin before their 2-0 defeat away to Scotland in November 2021.
Their fresher form is also excellent and Nations League champions Portugal needed extra-time to get past the Danes in March's quarter-final.
Denmark won the first leg of that tie at home thanks to Rasmus Hojlund's 78th-minute goal and they have been drawing at half-time in three of their last four competitive victories.
