  • Norway made waves with an 11-1 demolition of Moldova

As anticipation grows ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, here is a look at how the qualification picture for the tournament is looking from across the globe.

Some teams have already booked their place at the competition, while other nations are in the heat of the battle to reach this highly anticipated tournament next year.

Asia (AFC)

AFC Asian qualifiers have reached the fourth-round stage, with six teams split into two groups still in the running to reach the 2026 World Cup.

No games have taken place in the fourth round just yet, but Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman find themselves in Group A, with Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Indonesia in Group B.

The two teams who finish top of each group automatically qualify for the finals, while the runners-up in the fourth round will compete home and away over two legs to determine the Asian representation at the inter-confederation play-offs.

Africa (CAF)

Meanwhile, in Africa, two of the nine teams from the continent who qualify for the next World Cup have already been confirmed.

After impressive campaigns, Morocco and Tunisia have already booked their places at the major tournament.

In the other qualifying groups, Egypt, Senegal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Algeria and Ghana all top their tables and are pushing to join the Moroccans and Tunisians at the World Cup.

Oceania (OFC)

New Zealand were the successful nation in OFC qualification, beating New Caledonia 3-0 in the final to reach the World Cup.

New Caledonia will have a second bite of the cherry as they go into the inter-confederation play-offs, which will take place in March next year.

Europe (UEFA)

No teams from Europe have booked their place at the 2026 World Cup just yet, with nations at different stages of their respective qualification campaigns.

There are some teams who have made impressive starts, with both England and Norway winning all of their first five games so far and topping their respective groups.

Norway made headlines by thumping Moldova 11-1, while the Three Lions were highly impressive in a 5-0 win in Serbia.

Elsewhere, Croatia also have a perfect winning record in Group L, winning all of their first four games but there are still plenty of matches in European qualification yet to be played.

South America (CONMEBOL)

Qualification in South America has concluded with Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay all securing their spots at the 2026 World Cup.

Bolivia finished in seventh place in the table and they will head to the inter-confederation play-offs, with Venezuela missing out on qualifying for their first-ever finals.

North/Central America (CONCACAF)

As co-hosts of the major tournament, the United States, Canada and Mexico are already guaranteed of placse at next year's finals.

Meanwhile, qualification is still going on, with two rounds of fixtures completed across the three qualifying groups.

Suriname lead the way in Group A, with Jamaica topping Group B and Honduras sitting top of Group C.

The best two runners-up from these groups will join one team each from AFC, CAF, CONMEBOL and OFC in the inter-confederation play-offs.
