  • Liverpool have recruited extremely well with Frimpong, Kerkez, Ekitike and Wirtz

  • Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest need to add numbers ahead of European campaigns

  • Brentford, West Ham and Wolves have all lost key players

There is just under a month to go until the summer transfer window closes for Premier League clubs at 7pm on Monday, September 1.

Here we assess each team's business and identify areas for potential improvement.

Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres could be the cure to Arsenal's centre-forward issues, while Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard provide midfield class and steel.

The other arrivals also add depth, but an out-and-out full-back, on either side, rather than a hybrid player, could offer greater options.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa face the challenge of adding depth, but with players who may not improve their starting line-up. Neither Marco Asensio nor Marcus Rashford stayed on after their loan spells.

With Ollie Watkins potentially leaving, they need more than one forward, even with the impending arrival of Evann Guessand from Nice, while they also look light at full-back.

Bournemouth

Dean Huijsen's exit makes keeping Illya Zabarnyi even more vital, but another central defender is needed to add competition.

Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic and left-back Adrien Truffert look like decent signings, but Bournemouth still look light at the back.

Brentford

Captain Norgaard's exit has been compounded by Bryan Mbeumo's departure to Manchester United.

Jordan Henderson adds experience but may need younger legs next to him, while Yoane Wissa's push to depart means the Bees simply have to sign another striker to aid rookie coach Keith Andrews.

Brighton

It might be too early for teenage striker Charalampos Kostoulas, despite his £35m price tag and Joao Pedro's exit and Danny Welbeck's 34-year-old legs mean another forward is essential for Brighton.

The Seagulls have again signed potential, but more experience would not go amiss.

Burnley

Burnley broke countless records with their defensive feats in the Championship, but they struggled for goals and top scorer Josh Brownhill has departed.

A goalscorer and at least a couple of other players to both provide assists and chip in with goals of their own are needed.

Chelsea

Robert Sanchez's total of five errors leading to goals was the joint-most by goalkeepers in last season's Premier League and he still looks like Chelsea's weak link.

In the Spaniard's defence, the Blues' policy of targeting young players means he can be left exposed by the lack of experience in front of him and some older heads would improve a talented yet green squad, albeit one that has had plenty of success.

Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi is heavily linked with an exit and with him in the final year of his contract, Crystal Palace need to plan for life without the England centre-back.

European football also means they need to add depth, meaning quantity may have to be prioritised over quality.

Everton

David Moyes has publicly said he wants Everton to sign a right winger and the club are looking to snare Southampton's Tyler Dibling.

Dibling's lack of defensive discipline may also further highlight the need for a right-back, with Nathan Patterson often injured, Seamus Coleman ageing, Ashley Young having exited and Jake O'Brien a central defender.

Fulham

Marco Silva might be happy with a squad that flirted with European qualification last season, however, the Cottagers lacked creativity last season and could look to add more flair to help Alex Iwobi.

Leeds United

Size has been the focus for Leeds this summer, adding several players who stand over six feet tall.

Among them is Lucas Perri, who is expected to help resolve their goalkeeping issues, but the Whites are yet to solve their striker problem, with it unclear whether last season's Championship top scorer Joel Piroe will be able to repeat his form.

Liverpool

The champions have had an excellent window, adding Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool look far from finished, though, especially after selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich and their bid to sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak is turning into this summer's biggest transfer saga.

Manchester City

Manchester City's poor form last winter saw them hit the January sales hard. Some of those players excelled, while others might be better after having six months to adapt.

This summer's signings, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and James Trafford, are great ages to develop, but there are still doubts at right-back, where midfielder Matheus Nunes often featured last season.

Manchester United

Manchester United have already purchased Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, but are also said to be following Watkins and be in a two-way tussle with Newcastle for Benjamin Sesko.

Ruben Amorim's devotion to a 3-4-3 provides specific issues for an already unbalanced squad and the general lack of mobility in defence and midfield remains a concern.

Newcastle United

Keeping Isak is essential to Newcastle's Champions League return, especially as Sesko's protracted transfer means he will need time to adapt if he does join.

Anthony Elanga is a good addition on the right side of attack, but the Magpies' focus is on keeping their players, with Tino Livramento being linked to Man City.

Nottingham Forest

Captain Morgan Gibbs-White's new contract is huge and Dan Ndoye, Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha could all be excellent signings for Nottingham Forest.

However, like Palace, Forest need to add bodies to help tackle the demands of Thursday-Sunday football.

Sunderland

Sunderland have spent big to make themselves Premier League-ready, but their best investment could be in the experienced duo of £15m buy Granit Xhaka and free agent Reinaldo Mandava. More new faces are expected.

Tottenham

New Spurs boss Thomas Frank has been backed by the board, signing Mohammed Kudus, while Joao Palhinha's loan adds steel and could prove very shrewd.

Son Heung-min's departure means more leadership might be needed, but it also opens up a clear role for Mathys Tel, whose loan has been made permanent.

West Ham

West ham boss Graham Potter has made good moves, drafting in free agents Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson, while El Hadji Malick Diouf looks an excellent signing on the left.

However, it is in the goal and up front where the Hammers need more. Their four strikers combined for just five goals in 2024-25 and, while Wilson will help, Niclas Fullkrug needs a better second season.

Alphonse Areola's errors in pre-season also add to the need for another goalkeeper.

Wolves

Ait-Nouri and Cunha have been followed out of the Molineux exit door by another proven Premier League performer in Nelson Semedo.

Fer Lopez, Jhon Arias and David Moller Wolfe all have potential, but will need time to settle and Vitor Pereira's squad looks a bit light.
