The Premier League’s fifth round of fixtures features some mammoth clashes, with Arsenal and Manchester City’s potentially crucial showdown one of the highlights alongside the Merseyside derby.

We have picked out some key team news for the big games taking place.

Liverpool vs Everton (Saturday, 12.30pm)

The first Merseyside derby of the campaign takes the lunchtime spot on Saturday and the question on everyone’s lips is will it be another late show from Liverpool?

The Premier League champions have won their opening five matches in all competitions but their winning goal has come after the 82nd minute in each of those victories.

Everton would love to stop Arne Slot’s rampant Reds but they face a tough task in doing so as the Dutchman has confirmed Curtis Jones is available, meaning he has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

That leaves Slot with plenty of selection dilemmas but the biggest decision comes up front, where in-form Hugo Ekitike and British record-signing Alexander Isak are jostling to start.

Despite starting in the midweek win over Atletico Madrid, Isak is likely still short of match fitness, so Ekitike may keep his place for now.

David Moyes also has a strong squad to choose from as Jarrad Branthwaite and Vitaliy Mykolenko are nearing their returns.

The game could come too soon for the pair, however, and the Scot may stick with the side which drew with Aston Villa last Saturday.

Manchester United vs Chelsea (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Ruben Amorim’s dreadful Manchester United career continued with a 3-0 defeat in the derby last Sunday and he desperately needs a statement win.

Whether that comes against Chelsea is unknown but he is at least boosted by the returns of Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who missed last week’s loss.

Chelsea, meanwhile, need to dust themselves off after a 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich on Thursday.

Enzo Maresca played a more defensive midfield three of Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in that loss but should revert to starting Cole Palmer, who began on the right wing in Bavaria, through the middle and bringing another natural winger in.

Long-term absentees Liam Delap and Levi Colwill remain out for the Blues but there is hope Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile could return.

Arsenal vs Manchester City (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Arsenal have started the season looking every bit like title contenders and they will be aiming to land a statement victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

It is a good job they invested heavily this summer, though, as key men Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus make up a lengthy injury list.

Mikel Arteta has often been scrutinised for his defensive set-up in big games and it will be interesting to see whether he opts for his safe midfield trio of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino or goes on the offensive by starting Eberechi Eze in the engine room and Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing.

Manchester City have their own fitness issues, too, with Omar Marmoush, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips and Mateo Kovacic all ruled out for this crucial clash.

Knowing exactly what Pep Guardiola will do is impossible - he should probably take the Tinkerman nickname from Claudio Ranieri - but it would be a surprise to see him make wholesale changes from the side which cruised past United last Sunday.

Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Abdukodir Khusanov were among the players who took their chance last week and should all keep their places.
